Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar on Friday turbanned Malam Lawal Maidoki, as Sadaukin Sokoto. Dignitaries from within and outside the Nigeria graced the ceremony, which was held at the Sultan’s Palace, Sokoto.
The ceremony was spectacular because it was the first time the Sultan has appointed Sadauki, which means one who is committed to service to humanity. The recipient is a member Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, National President of Dawah Coordinating Council of Nigeria and Chairman Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Commission. The Sulatn said the title was bestowed on him in recognition of his years of selfless service to the people.
He said over time, the Islamic scholar had earned the respect of many through sheer commitment to humanitarian and community services. The Sultan also noted that Maidoki, a trained Agricultural Engineer, combines his professional career with voluntary human development initiatives. “Maidoki played vital roles in voluntary community development organisations, religious groups activities and his career service from his youthful age to present status,” he pointed out. The royal father also acknowledged the efforts of Mallam Maidoki in transforming the state’s Zakkat Commission.
He also said Mallam Maidoki was also in the forefront of contributing to the development of various communities in Nigeria and neighbouring countries. The monarch enjoined him to continue with the good works to justify the Sultanate council and public confidence. Also, the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal spoke highly of Mallam Maidoki, underscoring his efforts in advancing the cause of Islam and contributions to community development. “So many of us have a lot to learn from the life of Mallam Maidoki,” he said.
In his response the recipient said he was grateful for the honour done to him by the Sultan. “I feel honoured and thank Allah (SWT) because it is all made by Him and I also pray He makes it easy for me to discharge my duties as expected and in the best manner it would please Allah (SWT).”
