Irfan, accompanied by IPB Secretary of the Islamic Economic Department Laily Dwi Arsyianti, had used this opportunity to convey the BAZNAS message on the importance of strengthening zakat collaboration between Maldives and Indonesia as well as the WZF message on the needs to have Maldives on board as its member country.
Vice President Abdulla Jihad in his remark stated that Maldives has strong interest towards collaboration with Indonesia in the field of zakat. He also added that Maldives need to interact with other countries especially in the exchange of experience and ideas, hence, he assured that Maldives would get involved in the WZF. "I am sure that the Minister of Islamic Affairs has responded properly on the need to join the WZF," the VP said.
VP Abdulla Jihad further elaborated current structure of zakat management in Maldives and the impact of zakat on the low income society in this beautiful islands. The VP also explained about the distribution aspect of zakat and how zakat was distributed among the eligible ashnaf.
The meeting was very successful and gave more confidence on the presence of the World Zakat Forum. "I am really grateful that His Excellency Abdulla Jihad has the same vision on the importance of strengthening the role of zakat in economic development and the needs to synergize among Islamic countries," Irfan said. Irfan also conveyed the message of BAZNAS Chairman Prof Bambang Sudibyo to invite VP Abdulla Jihad to Indonesia.
